Range Martial Arts East
Range Martial Arts is one of the longest running martial arts schools in northern Minnesota. We are a family oriented school focusing on the traditional values of the martial arts. Haidong Gumdo is one of the Korean martial art programs that we offer for those wanting to learn swordsmanship.
Instructors follow curriculum from the World Haidong Gumdo Federation (WHGF), USA Haidong Gumdo Association (USAHGA) and Midwest Haidong Gumdo. This program teaches a Korean martial art of swordsmanship in a traditional style comprised of techniques based on those developed over the centuries of wartime in the Korean penninsula. Korean terminology is used frequently by the instructors and students in order to help promote the Korean heritage of the art. Students are taught various aspects of the art through instruction, lectures, and repetition. The instructors for these classes help students work toward their goals - whether it be to learn their next form, pass their next test, or to reach black belt. Techniques are taught to each student and reviewed frequently.
In addition to terminology and physical technique, students learn honor, obedience, respect, focus, self-control, brotherhood, self-discipline, confidence and even humility. These traits help develop leadership skills within the community while we provide students with a family-oriented setting.
Because haidong gumdo is low-impact, it is suitable for many age groups and physical abilities. Students practice with wooden swords to learn techniques and eventually use live blades for testing and demonstration.
Classes are available for ages 12 and older. Younger students may be considered with experience or family members.
